New York has approved a policy to move forward with a possible virtual high school as early as 2011- 2012! I have used my podcasts as part of my online learning program-- we may see more use for these skills for teachers in the future. I have launc…

I've experimented with a couple of tools for creating enhanced Podcasts (narrated slides). I started originally with simply narrating Powerpoint slides, but the file sizes are too big for downloading. I am currently using Elluminate Live for webcast…

Hi- My name is Sue Palmer and I am a secondary social studies teacher turned podcaster to help my inclusion classes! I have been podcasting for two years now, creating "masterycasts" to help students master US and Ancient World History. You can see my work and the story behind it in the MasteryCast podcast on my site! I am also in iTunes as MasteryCast.

I also have a second podcast for teachers called "MasteryCast Chat which is also on the www.masterymaze.com site in the Podcast section.

My other websites include:

Why this site?

I have created this network as a place where educators and content creators can learn and share their resources and experiences. I hope you will join the vision. It is my belief that we as educators can really make a difference if we harness this technology and step into the world of our students. It has worked for me and has become a mission! If we work together and share our work and knowledge, we CAN reach more kids! Please visit the Maze to see and use my podcasts as well as those of other teacher contributors. Thanks!

Hybrid High School? k12 Online Learning Apps

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share this video I created and posted on youYube this week. I created it to express my views and summarize the training I gave this week in Ellicottville, New York. As a high school social studies teacher of at risk students and am using Moodle to turn my classroom into a hybrid course. I still see my kids the same number of days and my classroom really looks just as it did before. I have added an online component in Moodle and have basically extended learning beyond… Continue

A Perfect Marriage!- Podcasts and Moodle!

You will see in the video section of the page my most recent podcast~ Episode 5 of MasteryCast chat where I highlight my most recent project incorporating my podcasts into a Moodle site I have created called The Global Lab.

You can find all of the episodes of MasteryCast Chat on the podcast page of my site at www.masterymaze.com. The podcasts are in the Subjects sections.

Once you have the podcasts, there are a ton of options for their use. It is well worth the time to create them!

Are you getting the most from your iPod?

How are you using your iPod?

As I write this blog post, I am listening to one of my favorite podcasts, TWIT, with Leo LaPorte! I am a major user of iPods personally and in the classroom, however, until I listened to a new podcast called Learning in Hand: iPod, by Tony V… Continue

Plug in and Learn!

Hi

My name is Sue Palmer and I am a high school teacher in western NewYork state teaching at risk inclusion classes. As an effort to facilitate success for my students, I decided to use their technology, specifically their iPods and mp3 players, to help them master material needed for the state tests which they all must take and most must pass to graduate. The results have been amazing! I started a site to hold my work and the podcast itself can be obtai… Continue

Yes I think so, too. I'm looking forward to teaching my students to podcast. I don't know about all the rules and regulations yet about putting their (minor) voices out there for the world, yet.

Dear Sue:

Thanks a lot for creating this site. I'm a teacher in Oaxaca, a southern Mexican city, and in our school all new technology is just BANNED! Our directives are very afraid! But I hope that thanks to inspiring works from other lands and teachers we'll arrive to open up to this new and promising field in benefice of our kids!

Hi,

I'm just a beginner in using podcasting in education. I have given some workshops for university teachers (higher education). I'm also working at the Teacher Training Programe: we try to start some pilots with our students (using podcasting in secondary education).

Sue,

I watched your US History MasteryCast. Great! I have a meeting with our Heads of Department this afternoon during which I am going to bring up the topic of podcasts and screencasts. I will encourage them to come to your site for an example. This could make a big difference toward making classtime more productive and enjoyable for our students. Thanks!

Sue,

Thanks for you note. I am formulating ideas on how we might best use podcasts for reaching our students. My first thought is maybe moving the proverbial lecture out of the classroom and onto short podcasts (10 min.) so that classtime can be better used for active learning tasks. What do you think?
