as a part of a minigrant I was able to purchase 4 iPod nanos for my students to borrow...
I plan to load them with podcasts that I have created myself and/or downloaded from iTunes.
I'm sure you must have some advice...loaner agreements, contracts, etc.
Any advice will be welcome.
I would suggest a permission slip of sorts which contains an assumption of liability for the cost if the player is lost or stolen if that is going to be the policy of the school. We actually did not loan them out except to students where we had full agreement and cooperation from parents. Keep us posted as to how it works out.
I had loaned the mp3 players with audio only on a regular basis with just a statement in my course syllabus (which parents signed) wherein parents assumed responsibility. These were $30.00 items and the district basically figured we would take our chances. With the full iPods, we needed more!

New York has approved a policy to move forward with a possible virtual high school as early as 2011- 2012! I have used my podcasts as part of my online learning program-- we may see more use for these skills for teachers in the future.
