iPod Educators

Educational podcasters reaching the iPod generation

Hello Everyone!

A few weeks ago I held a short two hour training session for other teachers on using Camtasia Studio to create simple podcasts and screencasts like those I have created for my students. We downloaded the trial version and worked on a simple powerpoint recording. I am happy to report that three teachers are now as sold on Camtasia as I have been. Two of the teachers are creating screencasts of simple math formulas. The third is recording powerpoint as I have to create review tools for her science classes.

In just a two hour session, the teachers walked out with a completed first screencast. I would recommend that you consider downloading the trial version and just play and give it a try. There are tutorials if you are interested.

Our District is willing to obtain licenses for those teachers who are willing to create resources for their students. It is really pretty easy to use! I encourage you to give it a try!

I have had great success with using Camtasia studio for recording screencasts of concepts in Fractions & Decimals for a Yr 7 Mathematics Class some of which are here .

I find it really easy to use.

If you are wanting to use a free version, you could opt for Cam Studio - I've found it really easy to do. Also, you might want to get an invite to the beta of ScreenToaster, which is a completely online screen capture application. So any clips you record are then available to send as links - much more sensible, in my opinion - especially if you have a blog, website or wiki - all free to use

Hope they're of use

Sue, I have a smartboard in my room and I can record with the smartboard software and if I want to do any editing, I do so on MovieMaker. What makes it different than Movie Maker?

This is my latest podcast (from my smartboard)

jingproject.com offers a free screencasting tool. It's produced by Techsmith too, but limits the screencasts to 5 minutes. I have used both and I recommend Jing for anyone wanting to explore what can be done. A good tool for students to use to offer you reports on their work - not just for the teacher.

Thanks for the great information! Another useful product that is similar to camtasia is Scate Ignite, a great cost effective alternative which is easy to use and learn and offers all the features camtasia offers. Scate Ignite enables you to record any video or audio activity in your computer screen with ease. You can develop eLearning videos complete with quizzes. You can publish to almost any format including Podcast, YouTube, HD Video and so on. It is a bit less expensive with the home edition starting at 39.00 US. Check out the free trial here: https://www.scateignite.com/s2.php?action=downloads.trials

Good luck and we would love to get your feedback.
